Locals said that the woman and her daughter had visited the site to check on the progress of the construction. At the time, no protective railings or barriers had been installed along the balcony edge.
A woman and her daughter had a miraculous escape after accidentally falling from the first floor of an under-construction building in Gujarat’s Surat on Thursday evening. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera and has since gone viral on social media, sparking renewed concerns over construction safety standards in rapidly expanding urban neighbourhoods.
The fall took place around 9 pm in the Limbayat area at a house named "Dhan Dai Mata Prasanna," where construction work was still underway.
According to local residents, the woman, identified as 45-year-old Sangeeta Yuvraj Pawar, and her daughter, Madhuri (21), had visited the site to check on the progress of the construction. At the time, no protective railings or barriers had been installed along the balcony edge.
CCTV footage circulating online shows a man standing outside the building moments before the accident.
Seconds later, the young girl suddenly loses her balance and falls from the first floor to the ground below. Her mother, apparently attempting to hold onto her or reacting instinctively, falls immediately after.
The video further shows the girl getting back on her feet almost instantly, appearing largely unharmed.
