A massive fire tore through a busy market in western Tehran on Tuesday, sending huge plumes of smoke across the Iranian capital and triggering a major emergency response, as authorities said the cause of the blaze remained unclear.
State media reported that the fire broke out at a bazaar in the Jannat Abad neighbourhood, an area packed with stalls and small shops. The blaze was so intense that it could be seen from several parts of the city, the Mirror reported.
“The fire is extensive, to the extent that it is visible from various parts of Tehran,” Jalal Maleki, a spokesman for Tehran’s fire department, was quoted as saying by state television.

According to officials, the fire started around 10 am at a shopping centre in the Janat Abad Shomali area in west Tehran. The market, which covers around 2,000 square metres, was open at the time and crowded with vendors and customers.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of thick smoke and flames spreading rapidly through the complex. Firefighters arrived to find the blaze already well established.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the United States was in contact with "the right people" in Iran and suggested that Tehran was eager to reach an agreement to halt hostilities. "We're in negotiations right now," he told reporters, without offering further details on the scope or format of the talks.
