
Vaccines for all adults unlikely from tomorrow, states say no stocks to start Phase 3 drive

Starting May 1, India is scheduled to begin the Phase 3 vaccination drive to give jabs to all adults aged above 18 years. However, several states have said they won't be able to start the drive tomorrow over vaccine shortage.
The ambitious Phase 3 vaccination drive in the country amid the raging second wave of Covid-19 across states is most likely to hit a roadblock on May 1 when it is scheduled to begin with vaccination for all adults above 18 years. Several state governments have said they won't be able to start the vaccination drive for all adults from May 1 due to a shortage in vaccine doses. These states also include the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa. Two days ahead of the vaccination drive, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday that more than 1 crore vaccine doses are still available with the states and they will receive 20 lakh more doses in the next few days.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
