Uttar Pradesh: SP MLA accused of keeping block chief hostage for 5 months

Samajwadi Party MLA Mahendra Nath Yadav has been accused of kidnapping a sitting block chief of the party from Bahadurpur.
Samajwadi Party MLA from Basti Mahendra Nath Yadav has been accused of keeping Bahadurpur block chief Ramkumar hostage for over four months. The Uttar Pradesh Police carried out a raid at the SP MLA’s residence on March 18 and rescued Ramkumar and his family. According to reports, the MLA was present at his residence at the time of the police raid.
The UP Police first registered a case after Om Prakash, son of Mithai Lal, alleged that his brother-in-law Ramkumar, who is the block chief of Bahadurpur, was taken hostage by Samajwadi Party district president and MLA Mahendra Nath Yadav on October 23, 2021.

The complainant claimed that Ramkumar had informed Om Prakash on the night of March 17 that he is being held hostage by Mahendra Nath Yadav at the latter’s residence and was not being allowed to leave.
After registering the case, the police launched an investigation. During the search, the location of Ramkumar was traced to the SP MLA’s house. The officials immediately reached the spot and secured the release of Ramkumar and his family.
Basti SP Ashish Shrivastava said that police will further investigate the case after recording the statement of the accused and the victim. He added that the victim has been given police protection.
