Uthra’s husband Sooraj — has been sentenced to double life imprisonment and fined Rs 5 lakh for killing his wife using a Cobra.
In the Uthra murder case from Kerala, which is considered to be one of the rarest cases in the history of Indian criminal investigation, the culprit — Uthra’s husband Sooraj — has been sentenced to double life imprisonment and fined Rs 5 lakh for killing his wife using a Cobra. The Kollam sixth Additional Sessions Court Judge M Manoj pronounced the sentence under IPC 302. The court accepted the prosecution's argument that this is a rare case. But the death penalty was waived based on the defendant's age.
Sooraj was awarded one life imprisonment for killing Uthra using a cobra, another for attempting to kill Uthra using a Viper, 10 years of imprisonment for using poison, and seven years imprisonment for destroying evidence.
