
Unidentified miscreants vandalise Hindu temple in Jammu's Sidhra, case registered

Unidentified miscreants vandalised a decade-old Hindu temple in Jammu on Saturday, prompting police to file a case and launch an investigation.
A Hindu temple was vandalised by some unidentified miscreants in Jammu's Sidhra, police said on Saturday. A case has been registered in this regard and a probe is underway to nab the culprits, they added.
According to the police, the incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in Jammu's Sidhra town.
The idols of deities were found damaged at the decade-old temple in Sidhra on the city outskirts, PTI quoted police officials as saying.
The police officials further said that the priest of the temple noticed the damage in the morning and informed the police station concerned, which immediately rushed a team to investigate the matter.
"A case has been registered and an investigation is on to bring the culprits to book," a police official said, urging people to maintain communal harmony and foil the nefarious designs of inimical elements to disturb the peace.
Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kavinder Gupta issued a statement condemning the attack on the Jammu temple, saying such attacks are carried out to break the area’s ethnoreligious harmony.
He said, “Similar incidents have taken place in the past in Jammu. However, this time, the attack, which came after many days, raises several questions about the administration itself.”

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
