Uneasy about going abroad? 15 national parks perfect for spring break.
USA TODAY
Whether you’re looking for lazy days by the beach, tranquil nights or a week of adventure, there’s a national park for your family this spring break.
Spring break is fast approaching for families across the country.
Those still looking for memorable but relatively affordable vacation destinations can find them in hundreds of national parks.
There are 433 areas within the National Park System all informally called parks, even though their formal categorizations vary widely.
Each was set aside for a specific natural or cultural purpose, and each one is worth visiting – though perhaps not all for spring break. Isle Royale National Park, for example, doesn’t reopen until April 16, most of Yellowstone’s roads remain closed to cars through late April, and parks outside the Lower 48 can be pricey to reach, especially last minute.
These 15 parks, however, would make excellent spring break destinations with relatively little planning.
