Two police officers sustained injuries after a car ran over them when they were checking vehicles in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on Friday. The injured police officers, including a constable, are undergoing treatment at a nearby district hospital. The driver who ran the vehicle over the police has been arrested.
The incident happened when police officers were checking vehicles by putting up a barricade after they received information about a bike being stolen. The culprits arrived in a vehicle and when the police signalled them to stop, they broke the barricade and ran over the policemen. The incident has been reported from Jalesar road under Keshopur police station limits.
When the accused tried to flee the spot, the car got stuck in a nearby field. The locals somehow managed to catch hold of the driver but the other culprits present in the vehicle ran away.
After receiving the information, Superintendent of police (SP) Vijay Kumar Vaid visited the district hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured cops.
"There were four to five people in the car and they are all drunkards from Hasayan police station limits. They are miscreants who will be arrested soon," he said.
