A Toronto police officer has been arrested and charged with sexual assault, according to Peel police on Wednesday.
Farhan Ali, 39, from Markham was arrested following an investigation by the special victims unit, said Peel police in an emailed statement.
Ali is facing three counts of assault, three counts of sexual assault and four counts of mischief, they said.
Nadine Ramadan with Toronto police confirmed on Wednesday that Ali is a constable with the service and that he's been suspended with pay per the Community Safety and Policing Act of Ontario.
She said Ali was arrested for "off-duty conduct."
Meaghan Gray with the Toronto Police Association said they were aware that an officer was charged, but did not have any other information to share.
Peel police said there are no further details available on the case while it goes through the courts.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Peel police or Crime Stoppers.
