Top Samsung officials gets notice from Jharkhand HC in bribery case

The managing director of mobile and electronic appliances firm Samsung, along with two other officials has been served a notice by the Jharkhand High Court in a case of alleged bribery.
The Jharkhand High Court has issued a notice to the managing director of mobile and electronic appliances company Samsung in a case of alleged bribery.
The Ranchi head of Samsung, Partha Jena, and area manager Rajesh Kumar have also been served notices in the case. The case pertains to its service centre in Ranchi — Linktech Services. The owner of the service centre, Shusobhan Banerjee, has alleged that during the Covid-induced lockdown, the higher-ups at Samsung sought bribes from him.

He said he was forced to invest Rs 5 lakh. In his petition, Banerjee said that was threatened that if he dared to defy the diktat, the association of his service centre with Samsung would be cancelled. Left with no other option, Banerjee was forced to accept the unjust demands of the higher-ups at Samsung.
However, he decided to file an arbitration application at the Jharkhand High Court. His lawyer Niranjan Kumar filed the petition and the matter was heard in the court of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad. The court, apart from serving the notice on Samsung officials, directed the company to find and appoint an arbitrator.
