Rising tomato prices are burning a hole in consumers' pockets this summer with rates seeing a nearly 400 per cent increase in Delhi this year. Check latest tomato prices in the national capital and the reason for the higher cost.
Severe heatwave spells have adversely impacted the prices of tomatoes in the national capital as the production has been hit in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The prices have increased as the arrival of tomatoes to Delhi has dropped to almost one-third.
The prices of tomatoes are nearly 400 per cent higher than in previous years, according to the wholesale and retail vegetable sellers.
In the retail market, tomatoes are selling for Rs 65-80 per kg this year, while the prices in the month of May in 2020 and 2021 were just about Rs 12-18 per kg.
However, the rates are expected to come down a few notches with the new produce of tomatoes from central and western Uttar Pradesh having started to reach Delhi.
LEMON PRICES
The prices of lemons, which broke all records this year, have started calming now.
In the retail market, lemons are selling for Rs 135-160 per kg now after touching Rs 280-300 for the same quantity earlier this month.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
