TN govt allocates Rs 33, 007 crore to agriculture dept for 2022-23

State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam, while presenting the budget on Saturday, said that the govt will implement schemes to increase millet production in the state.
The Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 33,007.68 crore to the agriculture department for the year 2022-23.
While presenting the agriculture budget for 2022-23 on Saturday, agriculture minister MRK Panneerselvam said that of the 86 announcements made in the last budget, 80 are being implemented.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu on Friday presented the Budget for 2022-23 with a focus on the urban sector, welfare schemes, education, climate change and flood prevention measures.
Climate change will have an impact on 29 districts in Tamil Nadu, the agriculture minister said, adding, "Appropriate countermeasures will be implemented, like alternate crops that can withstand climate change impact."

The agriculture minister said that the state will implement schemes to increase millet production. "For the crop insurance scheme, Rs 2329 crore has been allocated by the state. Around 9.26 lakh farmers received Rs 2055 crore as crop insurance in the current year," he added.
Training will be given to farmers to adopt natural farming methods across 7500 acres, he said, adding that the agricultural development scheme will be implemented for Rs 71 crore.
