
Three-day crafts expo gets under way in Puducherry

A three-day expo of products created by craftsmen from across the Union Territory of Puducherry and its surrounding craft clusters is under way at the Gandhi Thidal.
Hosted by the Crafts Council of Puducherry (CCP), an affiliate of the Crafts Council of India (CCI), and INTACH, ‘Pudu Vasantham - Crafts Bazaar 2026’ is showcasing a curated range of handicrafts, handlooms, home décor, and a range of other utility and fancy items of over 40 award-winning artisans, a press note said.
A.K. Roop Chander, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), terracotta master craftsman V.K. Munusamy, A. Arul, INTACH co-convenor, and CCP office-bearers Vidyaa Ramkumar, Sithara Gerdes, and Jyothi K.C., were among those who participated in the launch event.
This year, the ‘Pudu Kaivalam 2025’ award for contributions to the handicrafts sector will be presented to Jayamurugan, sculptor from Eraiyur.
The high points of the valedictory session on Sunday will be the launch of “Disha”, the CCP’s craft map of Puducherry, and the distribution of “Study to Sustain” scholarships to children of artisans. Workshops led by experts and a variety of cultural events are also part of the three-day event, the press note said.
