
'Those who wanted to decimate DMK...': MK Stalin mocks AIADMK over leadership crisis

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin claimed that those who wanted to decimate DMK, his party, have now been wiped out, referring to the leadership crisis within AIADMK.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday mocked AIADMK, the Opposition party, over the leadership crisis. Addressing an event, Stalin said that those who wanted to decimate his party, the DMK, had now been wiped out.
"We have gathered at this wedding hall to celebrate the marriage. At the same time, something else is happening in another marriage hall. I don’t want to get into that issue. We are celebrating the wedding of our family. We don’t have to bother about the other one," Stalin said, referring to the AIADMK general council meeting that culminated without adopting any proposed resolutions.
"But I wish to say that those who wanted to decimate DMK have been destroyed in the end," Stalin added.

The rift within AIADMK has been widening with two senior leaders at loggedheads over the unitary leadership demand raised by MLAs and general council members led by Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), the former chief minister. AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam (OPS) and a small group of leaders want the status quo to remain. AIADMK currently has dual leadership with EPS and OPS sharing responsibilities.
The general council meeting convened by EPS and OPS turned chaotic when OPS and a small faction walked out without being part of discussion on the single leadership issue.
Deputy Coordinator KP Munusamy then said that another general council meeting would be convened soon where, along with the 23 resolutions, another resolution seeking unitary leadership will be added and all will be passed together. The meeting will be held on July 11.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
