Thangam Thennarasu condemns Southern Railway for giving centre stage to Hindi in Sivakasi railway station nameboards

Thangam Thennarasu criticizes Southern Railway for prioritizing Hindi over Tamil in Sivakasi railway station nameboards.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister and DMK Virudhunagar North district secretary Thangam Thennarasu, has condemned Southern Railway for relegating Tamil in the name boards of Sivakasi railway station.
In his social media post, Mr. Thennarasu has said that Hindi as been given importance “pushing Tamil back” in the nameboards.
He has also posted a photograph of one of the new nameboards of the station in which Hindi has taken the centre stage. In the old nameboards, English was on the top, Tamil name was in the centre and Hindi was at the bottom.
However, in the new nameboards, Tamil was put in the top and Hindi has got the prominence in the centre and English has been put at the bottom.
“Southern Railway should give up its indirect attempt on Hindi imposition by respecting the linguistic sentiments of the people,” he said in the social media post.
“Tamil is the first, elder and principal (language)” his post read.
