The Telangana government has increased liquor prices by 20 to 25 per cent with immediate effect, in order to increase revenues.

The hike is expected to help the government generate additional revenues of Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 7,000 crore annually.
Furthermore, this increase will lead to moderation in the consumption of liquor in the state, the excise department said.
The changes will be immediately brought into effect, including the stocks with old MRP printed on them will be available at increased prices.

The last MRP revision was done two years ago in May 2020 in the state. In the last fiscal year, the state earned Rs 30,000 crore from liquor sales with the tax income at Rs 12,000 crore.
The MRP for brands with the current MRP of less than Rs 200, will be increased by Rs 20/40/80 for a 180ml/375ml/750ml bottle.
