A federal trademark tied to Taylor Swift's latest era just hit a temporary roadblock.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office suspended a trademark application filed by Swift's company, TAS Rights Management, LLC, seeking to register "The Life of a Showgirl."
The move does not mean the application has been rejected. Instead, the USPTO placed the filing on hold because two earlier marks could present legal conflicts, including an existing trademark titled "Confessions of a Showgirl" and a separate pending application for "Showgirl."
Swift's team did not immediately reply for comment.
In May of 2014, Las Vegas performer Maren Wade filed a federal trademark application for "Confessions of a Showgirl." The mark eventually registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Aug. 25, 2015, giving Wade federal protection for the phrase in connection with entertainment services.
