The members of the Central Organisation of Tamil Nadu Electricity Employees (COTEE) — CITU staged a protest here on Tuesday, demanding fulfilment of DMK’s election promise of declaring contract workers permanent employees. The protesters said their primary demand, which was to make the service of more than 8,000 workers employed in Tangedco under various departments like power distribution, thermal, hydro and general construction, who had fulfilled the basic criteria of completing 10 years of service, had been raised several times since the DMK government took over.
