Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin writes to Modi seeking withdrawal of CUET exams

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the CUET exams will affect the students who are from non-NCERT syllabus and wrote a letter to PM Modi requesting the withdrawal of CUET exams.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to withdraw the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions at all Central Universities.

Recently, it was announced that for the 2022-2023 academic year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) for various courses in all Central Universities funded by the University Grants Commission will be done only through the Common University Entrance Examination (CUET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Stalin wrote, "CUET, similar to Neet, will side-line the diverse school education systems across the country, grossly undermine the relevance of overall development oriented long-form learning in schools and make students rely upon coaching centres for improving their entrance examination scores.”

Chief Minister Stalin, in his letter, said that this (CUET), like Neet, will affect the students who are from non-NCERT syllabus. In his letter, Stalin said that the exam, based on NCERT, would put deserving students from other syllabus at a disadvantage.

“I wish to reiterate that any entrance examination that is based on NCERT syllabus will not provide an equal opportunity to all students who have studied in varied State Board syllabi across the country. In most states, State Board syllabus students constitute more than 80% of the total student population and these students invariably hail from the marginalised sections,” said CM Stalin in his letter to PM Narendra Modi.
