Suvendu Adhikari threatens to jail police, Abhishek Banerjee in Trinamool video

India Today

The tweet comes hours after BJP workers and leaders clashed with the police in Kolkata and other places in the state over their ‘Nabanna Obhijaan’, or the march to the secretariat.

As Kolkata and its neighbours erupted in violence this afternoon with the BJP protesting against the Trinamool Congress’s corrupt practices, the TMC has put out a video of Suvendu Adhikari, where the Leader of the Opposition is heard threatening to jail Indian Police Services officers.

“These IPS will be put inside and the nephew will also go,” Adhikari is heard saying in the video which has not been independently verified by India Today. Adhikari was detained by the police earlier in the day along with other senior BJP leaders.

SHOCKING!@BJP4Bengal leader @SuvenduWB THREATENS @WBPolice & IPS Officers who were simply doing their job. What does this indicate? Beyond the two #PuppetsOfBJP ED & CBI, WHAT ELSE DOES @BJP4India CONTROL? Can we expect any justice in this nation under BJP's misrule? pic.twitter.com/a0n24ypoqi

The BJP, which has been quite vocal against the prevalence of dynastic politics in India, has often used “nephew” to refer to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, who is Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew.

Tweeting the video from its official Twitter handle, the TMC wrote: “SHOCKING! Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari THREATENS West Bengal Police and IPS officers who were simply doing their jobs. What does this indicate? Beyond the two #PuppetsOfBJP ED and CBI, WHAT ELSE DOES BJP CONTROL? Can we expect any justice in this nation under BJP's misrule?”

The tweet comes hours after BJP workers and leaders clashed with the police in Kolkata and other places in the state over their ‘Nabanna Obhijaan’, or the march to the secretariat.

Several police kiosks have been vandalized and a police car was set on fire by the mob in Kolkata.
