Three members of a family died after allegedly consuming pesticide in Surat's Vesu area, with police recovering a suicide note citing financial harassment over money recovery.
A family of four allegedly attempted mass suicide in Surat’s posh Vesu area, leading to the death of three members, reportedly due to financial distress and mental pressure over money recovery.
The incident took place at the ‘Happy Elegance’ building where Balamukund Khetan consumed a poisonous substance along with his family. Khetan died on the spot, while his wife and one of his daughters succumbed during treatment at a hospital. The second daughter is currently admitted and undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary police investigation, the family allegedly consumed a pesticide used in agricultural fields. Police recovered a three-page suicide note from the house. As per the note, the family took the extreme step due to mental harassment and pressure from a man identified as Vaibhav Rungta over money recovery.
Balamukund Khetan, originally a resident of Bihar, had been working from home in the share market business for the past two years. The suicide note reportedly mentions that the accused had taken away the victim's car and credit card and had made unnecessary purchases using the card. The alleged harassment pushed the family to take the drastic step.
Family friend Sanjay Agarwal said he received a call at 4:11 pm from Khetan’s daughter informing him that her father was lying on the floor. “I first called my wife and son from the shop and sent them there. Then I rushed to the house. I saw Khetan ji lying on the ground and his daughter in a similar condition. We immediately took them to Green Leaf Hospital,” he said.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Khetan’s sister Khushi and her husband rushed to Surat from Bihar. Khushi said she was informed around 5 pm and took the first flight, reaching Surat at 8 am. “I only know that my elder brother, sister-in-law and two nieces consumed poison. One of my younger nieces is in the ICU. Whatever is written in the suicide note must be thoroughly investigated,” she said.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
