A student allegedly died by suicide in the hostel room of Allahabad University, Prayagraj, on Tuesday.

The student was found hanging from the ceiling fan at the Tara Chand hostel. The police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
As the news of the suicide spread, hundreds of students gathered outside the hostel. The students reportedly linked the suicide to the fee hike.
There has been a ruckus at Allahabad University for the last two days over the fee hike. Students have been protesting and demanding to withdraw the hike.
However, the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Jaya Kapoor, stated that the student was not from the university and was staying illegally at the hostel. This has nothing to do with the fee hike.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Santosh Kumar Meena, who also reached the spot, said, “The deceased was not a student of the university.Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter is underway.
