
Stop fooling citizens: Congress, Trinamool vs Centre over fuel rate cuts

After the Centre slashed excise duty on fuel on Saturday, the Congress and TMC have accused the BJP-led central government of fooling people and doing 'jumlabazi'.
The Centre on Saturday slashed excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per litre respectively.
Taking to Twitter, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "It [Excise duty cut] will have revenue implication of around Rs one lakh crore/year for the government I wish to exhort all state governments, especially the states where reduction wasn’t done during the last round (November 2021), to also implement a similar cut and give relief to the common man.”
Responding to the Centre’s move, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the government of fooling citizens.
Noting the rise in price of petrol between 2020 and 2022, he wrote, “Now, expect petrol to see ‘vikas’ in daily doses of Rs 0.8 and 0.3 again. The government must stop fooling citizens. People deserve genuine relief from record inflation.”

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
