They will ensure growth of tourism in the coastal region: Bommai
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday that steps are being taken to relax the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) rules in the State for the growth of tourism, on the lines of Goa and Kerala.
Addressing a convention of BJP workers at BC Road, Mr. Bommai said that with a 330-km-long coastal line, the State has enough scope to promote tourism. But tourism has not grown on the expected lines due to tough rules pertaining to the CRZ. Goa and Kerala have obtained certain relaxations from the rules.
The State too is making efforts to get such relaxations from the Union Government, he added.
He said that the State Government has taken steps for the development of ports in Mangaluru and Karwar. Dredging will be taken up at eight ports in the State this year. It will allow smooth sailing of fishing boats.
If the coastal belt prospered economically, its impact can also be felt in other parts of the State, Mr. Bommai said.
The Chief Minister said that his Government has effectively faced all challenges and dealt with such issues. It will continue to do so.
