Statements of witnesses show involvement of Nawab Malik in money laundering, says special court

A special court, while sending Nawab Malik to judicial custody, said the statements of witnesses showed the Maharashtra Minister's involvement in money laundering.
While sending Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik to judicial custody, the special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) said, "There are statements of witnesses which show the involvement of the accused in money laundering. Proceeds of crime are yet to be identified by the Competent Authority under PMLA. The investigation is at the initial stage."
Nawab Malik was sent to judicial custody till March 21 by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court on Monday. The order which was passed by Special Judge Rahul Rokde on March 7 was made available on Wednesday.
The Judge further said, "Having regard to the grounds mentioned in the remand report, the accused is required to be remanded to judicial custody for 14 days."
He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on February 23 in connection with a money laundering case. He was arrested after being questioned for about five hours at the probe agency's office in south Mumbai.
The money laundering case in which Nawab Malik has been arrested is linked to the activities of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his aides.
The ED's case is based on an FIR filed recently by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Dawood Ibrahim and others. The NIA had filed its criminal complaint under sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
