Speculation over politics within UP BJP picks up speed as J&K L-G Sinha called to Delhi

After Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha was called to Delhi, speculation over politics within the Uttar Pradesh BJP has picked up speed.

With the assembly election in Uttar Pradesh less than a year away, internal politics within the state BJP is the talk of the town. The recent news of Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha being called to Delhi has added fuel to the fire of speculation. In the 2017 state elections, Manoj Sinha’s name was almost finalised for the post of chief minister. However, at the last minutes, Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath parachuted into the role, leaving Sinha sidelined. He quietly ‘retired’ from active politics after being nominated as the L-G of Jammu and Kashmir. Several BJP leaders in Agra stated that although it will be quite unconventional to recall the governor of a state to make him chief minister, there is no rule against doing so. If Sinha is indeed nominated as the BJP's face for the upcoming elections in 2022, it could be a game-changer as Yogi Adityanath has not won many popularity contests among the general populace as UP’s chief minister.
