Special camps have been organised to facilitate applications for the “Kalaignar Kanavu Illam” scheme and self-employment loans aimed at providing rehabilitation assistance to the Manjolai tea estate workers, Cheranmahadevi sub-collector Arpeet Jain said here on Sunday.
Following the High Court’s judgment, these special camps were being conducted in the Manjolai Hills to offer comprehensive support to tea plantation workers. The camps provide applications under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme enabling the beneficiaries to choose their house at preferred zones or flats from completed projects under Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Projects (TNUHDB), self-employment loans, updating address proof, applications for admission to government schools, and hostels.
Mr. Jain said: “At present, only 65 families live in the hill area and many others have collected the forms for those who relocated to their native villages.” He said several beneficiaries had been building houses in various parts of the district under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme. Orders had been issued to eligible beneficiaries for allotment of flats in completed TNUHDB apartments in Reddiarpatti and Manimuthar.
The sub-collector said 141 workers benefited from various schemes and 22 new applications had been received from the workers during the recent camp.
About the basic services being provided to people in Manjolai, Mr. Jain said Manimuthar town panchayat continued to provide facilities such as drinking water and sanitation. Special medical camps had been organised twice a week alongside the daily operation of bus services, even though the buses often run with minimal occupancy.

The Shivamogga district judiciary and administration jointly launched 1,234 legal literacy clubs across schools in one go in Shivamogga on January 22. The clubs, aimed at spreading awareness about rights, duties and laws among students, have been set up in select government, aided and private schools as well as pre-university colleges across the district.
