
SP leader Azam Khan to be released from Sitapur jail today after 27 months in prison

SP leader Azam Khan, who has been in jail for nearly 27 months in an alleged cheating case, will be released from Sitapur jail today.
After around 27 months of being incarcerated, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan will be released from jail on Friday, May 20.
He was issued interim bail by the Supreme Court, after which the Rampur Court issued the order for his release.
The release order was sent to Sitapur Jail on Thursday night. Azam Khan will be released as soon as Sitapur Jail opens today.
Azam Khan's son Abdullah Azam along with Shivpal Yadav will be present at Sitapur Jail to receive the SP leader as he his released from jail.
The order for the release of Azam Khan was issued on a bond of Rs 1 lakh.
On Thursday, the top court had granted Azam Khan interim bail in an alleged cheating case, paving the way for his release.
The court ruled that it is a fit case to invoke its extraordinary power under Article 142 of the Constitution as facts in the present case are very peculiar.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
