South Africa Women have named their squad for their upcoming T20I series against England and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Their premier all-rounder Dane van Niekerk is still recovering from the ankle injury that she sustained earlier this year. 26-year-old Sune Luus will lead the team in the T20 matches.
Luus also captained the national team in the 2022 World Cup in New Zealand, where they advanced to the semi-final. Mignon du Preez, who retired from ODI and Test cricket earlier this year, has returned to the national squad for the T20 matches.
Convenor of selectors Clinton du Preez said that the veteran’s addition to the squad would add flexibility to their batting.
South Africa’s T20I series against England is scheduled to get underway on Monday, July 18. Chelmsford, Worcester, and Derby will host the three matches. South Africa Women will start their campaign in the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, July 30 with their opening match against New Zealand at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
They will also lock horns with England and Sri Lanka on Tuesday, August 2, and Thursday, August 4.
