Sonu Nigam says he refused Hindi reality showsas he was tired of unnecessarily praising contestants

Sonu Nigam opened up on tunring down numerous Hindi reality shows as he was asked to praise the contestants. Currently, he is seen on Bengali reality show Super Singer Season 3.

Sonu Nigam recently revealed that he turned down many Hindi reality shows as he was asked to say 'certain things' by the makers of the show. The singer is currently a judge on the Bengali reality show Super Singer Season 3. Last year, Amit Kumar stirred the hornet's nest when he revealed that he was asked to praise all the contestants on Indian Idol. After him, many reality show judges opened up on the same.

According to a report on TimesofIndia.com, during a press interaction with the media, singer Sonu Nigam said that he is approached for almost every singing reality show. He said, "I am the grand daddy of music reality shows. 22 years back, I hosted a show when there wasn’t any of such shows. I conceived it. Over these years, I have been a part of many of such shows as host and judge. Whenever there is a new Hindi music show, I am being approached but I turn it down.”

The singer revealed why he opted for a Bengali reality show over a Hindi one and said, "I instantly decided to be a part of this Bengali show (Super Singer Season 3), because I had high expectations. I turned down a lot of Hindi shows. I am tired of being asked to say same old things on the show and praise a contestant when the song isn’t good. I don’t like that. It has become more of a love lost kind of thing now. I don’t look forward to earning money and I don’t see the necessity of being a part of a show just for the sake of it. So I don’t say yes to Hindi shows these days,” said Sonu in the virtual press meet."

When Amit Kumar revealed that he was asked to praise the contestants on Indian Idol and that he didn’t enjoy some of the performances, Sonu Nigam, who has judged previous seasons of the show, came out in his support. He released a video on social media where he was seen requesting the makers of the singing reality show to end this controversy and stop taking undue advantage of Amit Kumar’s silence.
