Sonu Nigam has reacted to Ajay Devgn and Kiccha Sudeep's language row. The singer said that nowhere it is written that Hindi is the national language of the country.
A week ago, Bollywood star Ajay Devgn took a dig at Kannada superstar Kuccha Sudeep for saying 'Hindi is no more a national language'. The Runway 24 actor's tweeted 'Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language'. Twitter was divided on Ajay's statement. Now, singer Sonu Nigam has reacted to it and feels Hindi should not be imposed on all. He feels the country is already dealing with a lot of problems and Hindi imposition would divide people further.
When Sonu Nigam was asked about his opinion on Ajay Devgn calling Hindi the national language, he said, "I don't think anywhere it is written in the constitution that Hindi is India's national language. Hindi is the most spoken language, I understand that. Having said that, are we aware that Tamil is the world's oldest language? There is a debate between Sanskrit and Tamil. People say Tamil is the oldest language in the entire world."
The singer feels India is already dealing with a lot of problems and one should not add on to them. "Abhi tumhare baaki deshon se pange kam hai ki tum apne desh mein pange khade kar rahe ho. Yeh kyun discussion ho raha hai," he added. He said that Hindi imposition won't work in favour of this country. "Jisko jo bolna hai bolnege. Kyun peechhe pade ho ki iss desh mein ek bhasha boli jaye. Arrey chhoro yaar," said Sonu Nigam.
He further added, "Let them chill. Punjabi, Punjabi bole, Tamilians Tamil bole and if they are comfortable in English, then let them speak English. We have to accept the fact that English has now become a part of our culture and let's not divide people further in this country. Bahut jhamela already chal rahe hain."
Recently, South star Kiccha Sudeep, in an interview with KarnatakaTak, said that “Hindi is no more a national language.” This comes in the wake of South films breaking records at the box office. Now, Ajay Devgn hit back at Kiccha Sudeep on Twitter in Hindi. Its English translation roughly reads: "Kiccha Sudeep, my brother, according to you, if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your native language [mother tongue] films by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man."
