Much of Prince Edward Island could see significant snowfall on the first day of 2026.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Prince and Queens counties.
The weather agency said a developing low-pressure system is expected to bring a period of snowfall starting Thursday evening and continuing into Friday morning, with total amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres possible.
"The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur Thursday evening, which could make travel conditions difficult," the statement said.
"The exact track of the system is uncertain, but the potential exists for significant snowfall especially [in] central and western areas of the province."
Environment Canada is advising Islanders to check transit and flight statuses well in advance, as delays or disruptions are possible due to the weather.
