Rural road closures remain in place New Year's Eve due to winter weather
CBC
A number of roads remain closed Wednesday as snow squalls persist throughout Huron, South Bruce and Grey Bruce counties.
Environment Canada has issued an orange band warning for snow squalls across Goderich, Port Elgin and Owen Sound. As part of the agency's new colour-coded system, orange indicates severe weather is likely to cause significant damage, disruption or health impacts.
The warning is calling for near zero visibility with up to 40 centimetres of snow continuing through the day and possibly into Thursday.
"Snow squalls are expected to remain fairly stationary," said Environment Canada, "bringing potential for significant accumulating snow. Winds have eased off and blowing snow is less of a concern."
West Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have closed the following roads due to the storm system:
Huron -
South Bruce -
Grey Bruce -
Wonderland Road is also closed in Middlesex County, north of London, at Elginfield Road to Fourteen Mile Road.
OPP are urging motorists to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, and to stay safe.
