Train No. 16585 Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) Bengaluru-Murdeshwar Express began to run with Linke Hofmann Busche (LHB) coaches from May 5. The train from Bengaluru arrived in Mangaluru Central Station on May 6.
Its pairing train, Train No. 16586 Murdeshwar-SMVT Bengaluru Express will run with LHB coaches from May 6.
The service operates via Mysuru.
Of the 20 LHB coaches forming Train No. 16585, only five are new coaches manufactured in 2025, according to T. P. Lokesh, a Bengaluru-based rail enthusiast. Of the seven second class sleeper coaches, three are new, and of the four general second class coaches, two are new, he said.
All the air-conditioned coaches are old ones, some of them manufactured in 2014.
When the Mangaluru Central-Mumbai LTT Matsyagandha Express got LHB coaches, patrons had a similar experience. Many of the coaches forming four rakes of the service were old ones, leading to widespread disappointment among travellers.
Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kannur Express via Mangaluru Central gets LHB coaches from May 7 while Train No. 16512 Kannur-KSR Bengaluru gets them from May 8.
