
Six India Army jawans to be awarded with Shaurya Chakra

As many as six Army jawans will be honoured with the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind on Republic Day. Out of these six, five will receive the award posthumously.
As many as six Army jawans will be honoured with the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind on Republic Day. The announcement was made on the eve of Republic Day. Shaurya Chakra is the highest peacetime Gallantry award.
Five Indian Army soldiers will be awarded posthumously for showing exceptional bravery while combating terrorists.
Sreejith M (Posthumous)
On July 8, 2021, Naib Subedar Sreejith M, Sena Medal as Quick Reaction Team Commander, while carrying out a search in densely forested and rugged terrain, observed the movement of two to three terrorists. The Junior Commissioned Officer tactically deployed his team and engaged the terrorists with effective fire, denying them to break contact and escape. Amidst an intense firefight, he observed two terrorists trying to break the cordon. Displaying tactics, he crawled to the flank and brought down effective fire, eliminating one terrorist in a face-to-face gun fight. The other terrorists retaliated with hand grenades in which the Army jawan sustained multiple injuries and later died.
Anil Kumar Tomar (Posthumous)
On December 25, 2020, based on input of the presence of two-three unidentified terrorists, a cordon and search operation was launched in a village in Kashmir. Havildar Anil Kumar Tomar was leading a combat action team for the operation. He was directed by the mission leader to readjust the cordon. While moving for the task, he came under heavy firing from the terrorists and sustained a bullet injury in the thigh. Displaying the utmost courage, he responded with accurate fire and neutralised one terrorist. Then he pursued the second terrorist, injured him and cornered him inside a house. When the mission leader decided to address the house using an excavator, Havildar Tomar, despite being injured, volunteered to guide the excavator. When the house was being addressed, the injured second terrorist emerged from the house firing indiscriminately. He engaged the second terrorist and neutralized him on the spot and subsequently fell unconscious. He was evacuated from the location but succumbed to his injuries.
Kashiray Bammanalli (Posthumous)

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
