Amid the protests over the Prophet remarks row in Maharashtra, Dilip Walse Patil said that the situation was under control and requested the citizens to maintain peace.
Maharashtra has witnessed massive protests by the Muslim community in several areas in the state against the now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
The protestors have demanded strict action against Sharma for hurting the religious sentiments of the community.
Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that the situation was under control and requested the citizens to maintain peace.
Taking to India Today, the state home minister said, “The police had prior input that there would be protests in the state and necessary machinery had been put in place as a precautionary measure.”“Whatever happened in Solapur , Aurangabad, Jalna and other areas was reviewed. The Muslim community took out a peaceful protest and it was understood that their feelings had been hurt. But those taking the law in their hands will be dealt with a firm hand. The central government should also see that the situation is contained,” Patil said.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
