Singhu lynching case: Nihang accused of killing Lakhbir Singh gets interim anticipatory bail

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted interim anticipatory bail to Aman Singh, member of a Nihang group, who was accused of lynching Lakhbir Singh during the farmers' protests at Singhu last year.

Aman Singh was booked in the murder case lodged at Kundli police station in Haryana's Sonipat. He had earlier sought anticipatory bail which was rejected by the Sonipat court on November 16. Singh then petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking interim anticipatory bail.
The petitioner stated that he was falsely implicated in the case and his name appeared in the FIR only after the disclosure statement of other accused arrested in the case.
While granting interim bail to Aman Singh on Wednesday , the high court ordered him to join the investigation of the case and adjourned the matter for hearing to July.

Lakhbir Singh, 35, was brutally murdered at the farmers' protest site on Singhu border outside Delhi on October 15, 2021. His body, with a hand chopped off, was found hanging from a barricade near the main stage of the protesting farmers.
A Nihang group part of the farmers' protest claimed responsibility for the lynching. The Nihangs said they had killed Lakhbir because he had allegedly attempted to commit sacrilege.
