Sidhu has not eaten anything in nearly 24 hours at Patiala jail, says his lawyer

According to his lawyer, Navjot Singh Sidhu has not eaten anything in the 22 hours that he has been lodged at Patiala jail. Earlier this week, the Supreme Court sentenced Sidhu to one year in jail in a 1988 road rage case.
Navjot Singh Sidhu has been in jail for nearly 24 hours, as of Saturday evening. However, he has not had a morsel to eat throughout this period, according to his lawyer HPS Verma.
On Friday night, after surrendering, he refused to eat dinner provided by the Patiala jail authorities as he is allergic to wheat, his lawyer said.
Lawyer HPS Verma has appealed in the Patiala court that food be provided to cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu as per his health constraints. However, there has been no response from the authorities yet.
“I have been sitting in the court since the morning, waiting for jail authorities to arrive. But no one has come so far,” he said.
The Supreme Court sentenced former Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu to a one-year jail term on Thursday in a 1988 road rage case.
The Supreme Court had earlier allowed the review of its May 2018 order exonerating him in the 34-year-old road rage case, in which Patiala resident Gurnam Singh had died.
The case relates to the death of a man, Patiala resident Gurnam Singh, in December 1988 after Sidhu and a friend allegedly assaulted him in a road rage incident.
