The Army in a statement has said it 'deeply regrets' the incident and action will be taken on the loss of lives in Nagaland.

The Army in a statement said it 'deeply regrets' the incident in Nagaland's Mon district in which a soldier and several civilians were killed on Saturday evening. The Army said the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level and action will be taken.

"Based on credible intelligence of likely movement of insurgents, a specific operation was planned to be conducted in the area of Tiru, Mon District, Nagaland," the Army stated.
