
Second fine of ₹25,000 slapped on Param Bir Singh for failing to appear before Chandiwal committee

Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh has been slapped with a second fine of ₹25,000 for failing to appear before the Chandiwal committee probing allegations against Anil Deshmukh.
The single-member Chandiwal committee has imposed a fine of 25,000 for a second time on former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. A similar fine was levied on Singh on August 18 for failing to appear before the committee. He was asked to pay this amount to the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Covid Relief Fund. However, former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh is yet to pay the earlier penalty and will now have to pay a total of 50,000 in fines.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
