Sarfaraz Khan eyes India comeback with strong IPL season for Chennai Super Kings
India Today
Sarfaraz Khan believes his IPL stint with Chennai Super Kings can help revive his India ambitions, calling the opportunity to play alongside legends a crucial moment in his career.
Sarfaraz Khan believes a strong showing in the 2026 Indian Premier League could help revive his India ambitions after he was picked by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 75 lakh at the mini-auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16. The Mumbai batter will return to the IPL for the first time since the 2023 season.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Sarfaraz Khan’s move to Chennai Super Kings is the opportunity to share a dressing room with players he once only watched and admired. For Sarfaraz, the signing represents more than just a professional lifeline — it fulfils a long-held personal ambition.
“My dream was to play with the legends of this generation,” Sarfaraz said. “I played with Virat bhai at RCB. I never thought I’d get a chance to play with Rohit bhai, but I did in the Test team. I never thought I’d play with Mahi bhai, especially after he retired from international cricket. But after going unsold, CSK picked me in the IPL.”
The chance to work closely with senior figures such as MS Dhoni adds further significance to his return to the league, particularly at a time when he is looking to reset his career trajectory. Sarfaraz described the opportunity as one he does not take lightly, especially given the uncertainty he faced at the auction.
Sarfaraz also views the IPL as a critical platform to rebuild momentum and re-enter the India selection conversation. While acknowledging the changing priorities of young cricketers, he stressed the importance of adapting to white-ball cricket without abandoning broader ambitions.
“If you look at youngsters these days, they don’t want to focus on red-ball cricket,” he said. “But white-ball cricket is also very important.”
