Former Indian selector Sarandeep Singh has questioned Virat Kohli's exclusion from the upcoming West Indies tour.
Former Indian selector Sarandeep Singh has questioned Virat Kohli's exclusion from the squad for the T20I series against West Indies, saying that resting will not help the star batter to return to form.
Kohli's struggles have been well-documented with the former Indian captain's last international century coming way back in 2019. However, the 33-year-old was excluded from the squad for the T20I series against West Indies as BCCI made the announcement on Thursday.
Former selector Singh wasn't particularly pleased with Kohli missing the trip and question why such a decision was made. Speaking to NDTV, he said that rest can be afforded to the former captain if he was in a rich vein of form.
"I do not understand what is the meaning of rest? You can only rest if you are scoring 100s. We can understand if he is playing for the last 3 months, has scored 4/5 100s, he has got the liberty to take rest and then he can say he needs rest," said Singh.
Singh continued by saying that sitting out of a series and resting will not help the star batter regain his lost form.
"Even before IPL, he played 2 Test matches, did not play ODIs and T20Is. Then after IPL, he did not play the T20Is against South Africa. Sitting out and resting will not help you to get back in form," said Singh.
