A 19-year-old Tripura woman, who was allegedly attacked by her live-in partner in Gurugram, has alleged that the accused poured sanitiser on her private parts and set it on fire, and assaulted her with a knife for three days.
A 19-year-old woman from Tripura has given a harrowing account of violence at the hands of her live-in partner in Gurugram, telling police that he poured sanitiser on her private parts and set it on fire. She alleged that the accused, Shivam (19), then struck her on the head with a metal bottle, smashed it against household furniture, and went on to attack her with a knife.
In her statement to the Gurugram Police, the woman alleged that the violence continued for three consecutive days and that her partner forced physical relations on her on the pretext of marriage.
The survivor, a biotechnology student studying in Gurugram, is in critical condition after alleging that her partner assaulted her on February 19 after an argument over their marriage plans. She is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Police have arrested Shivam, a Delhi resident, and sent him to judicial custody.
According to police, the woman met Shivam through an online dating app in September 2025 and moved in with him months later in Sector 69 in Gurugram. Marriage talks had reportedly begun between the families.
Preliminary findings indicate that a late-night argument over their marriage plans between the couple spiralled into violence. Medical examinations have confirmed that the woman suffered multiple severe injuries, police said.
Gurugram DCP (South) Hitesh Yadav said the survivor was first taken to a government hospital in Gurugram in a critical state. She was later shifted to AIIMS and then Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment due to the seriousness of her injuries.
