The Rajya Sabha election for six seats in Maharashtra has suddenly become interesting with Sambhajiraje, the descendant of Maratha warrior king Shivaji Maharaj, throwing his hat into the ring as an independent fighter.
Elections for six seats in Maharashtra will take place on June 10.
Outgoing RS MP Sambhajiraje, who was nominated by the President of the upper house, has decided to contest as an independent candidate.
He has appealed to all political parties in the state to support his candidature.
Sharad Pawar recently hinted at supporting Sambhajiraje’s independent candidature saying that his party has excess votes, which they can transfer to Sambhajiraje.
Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena too is keen on contesting the sixth seat. After a meeting of MVA leaders over the RS elections at CM Uddhav Thackeray's official residence on Tuesday, Shiv Sena too has expressed a keen desire to contest the sixth seat.
"We want to contest the sixth seat and we know how to win it," Transport Minister and CM Thackeray's close aide Anil Parab told media persons after the meeting.
