The 45-year-old actor is the star of the upcoming sci-fi adventure movie "Project Hail Mary," set for release on March 20. He plays a middle school science teacher who is sent into space as the world comes to an end.
Gosling spoke about the film while sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" on Thursday, March 5, in front of an audience intentionally full of educators. Toward the end of the interview, he switched gears and asked the crowd to sing "Happy Birthday" as a surprise to Mendes.
"You have no idea how much she loves teachers," he said. "She has her hall monitor sash still from when she was a kid. She hangs it proudly in the house."
