RNC under investigation for 'officer-involved shooting,' SIRT says

Newfoundland and Labrador's Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an "officer-involved shooting" in St. John's.
The oversight body said in a media release Monday morning that the team is "responding to the scene of the incident" on Elizabeth Avenue.
It said one Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer is involved, but details from the team were sparse. SIRT's release doesn't say when the shooting happened, whether it involves an officer shooting someone, or whether there were any deaths or injuries.
"As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further," the release said.
A later release from the RNC said the shooting happened Monday morning. CBC News has asked the RNC for more information.
A release from the provincial government said its employment centre at the Regatta Plaza is closed due to a SIRT investigation, and directed clients to its Duckworth Street location.
Serious incidents are those involving serious injury, death, sexual offence, domestic violence or any matter of significant public interest arising from the actions of a police officer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
