Over 500 Madurai Revenue Department employees protest suspension of three officers, threatening to continue if not revoked.
Condemning the administrative action initiated against three staff of the Revenue Department, more than 500 employees owing allegiance to Madurai Revenue Officials’ Federation staged a demonstration on the Collectorate premises here on Wednesday.
The suspension of three officers – Paramasivam, Village Administrative Officer in charge of Velichanatham; Anitha, Revenue Inspector, Chathirapatti; and Palaniyandi, Village Assistant, Velichanatham - was said to be on the grounds of mishandling an event which led to law-and-order issue at Chathirapatti. Charges were also filed against Rajesh, zonal Deputy Tahsildar.
Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers’ Association Madurai district president Gopi said that during the flag-hoisting event of a political party at Chathirapatti, the suspended officials were accused of not informing senior officials prior to the event. So, they were placed under suspension for improper communication.
Condemning the administrative action, about 1,970 revenue officials – tahsildars, special revenue inspectors, junior revenue inspector, official assistants, clerks, village administrative officers, village assistants, surveyor, etc., across Madurai district availed earned leave for a day to protest against the administration, he added.
If the suspension orders were not revoked, the protest would continue, Mr. Gopi said.
