
Reserve sand mining rights for locals: J&K Apni party chief Altaf Bukhari gives ultimatum

Bukhari claimed that the auctioning of mines was “illegal”, and added that it was done when the internet was suspended and only outsiders could apply.
Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari Wednesday gave a one-week ultimatum to the government to revoke its sand extraction order which gives mining rights to residents from outside the Union Territory. Altaf Bukhari added that if the administration fails to revoke the order within seven days, then Apni Party leaders will hit the streets. The party said the policy has impacted the livelihood of lakhs of people in J&K. “If every policy of the government is such that people are forced to hit the streets, then we as a party will also hit the street along with people. We are giving people an ultimatum of one week to sort this out,” said Bukhari.
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
