Renault Bridger vs Mahindra Vision S: Design philosophies of the rugged SUVs compared
India Today
Renault and Mahindra are preparing rugged lifestyle SUVs for India's compact segment. The Bridger Concept and Vision S highlight two distinct design approaches while targeting buyers seeking style, practicality and adventure appeal.
The compact SUV segment is set to witness the emergence of a new lifestyle-oriented niche. The Renault Bridger Concept is set to enter the rugged compact SUV space in 2027 joining Mahindra Vision S concept in shaping what could become a fresh design-led direction for compact SUVs.
Both vehicles aim to blend compact dimensions with the visual appeal of off-roaders, promising bold styling and lifestyle-focused design cues while remaining built on monocoque platforms suited for everyday usability.
The Vision S was first revealed by Mahindra during the Mahindra Freedom NU Event 2025 in Mumbai, where the brand showcased four concept vehicles based on its new NU IQ platform. Among them, Vision S has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, hinting that it could be one of the earliest models from the lineup to reach production, likely around 2027. Renault Bridger
On the other hand, the Bridger Concept marks Renault’s preview of a new compact SUV positioned below the returning Renault Duster. The production version of Bridger will be developed and manufactured in India, with exports planned for regions including Africa, Latin America and the Gulf markets.
Despite coming from different manufacturers, both concepts appear to target the same idea: a compact SUV with lifestyle appeal rather than purely urban styling.
From a distance, the design direction of both SUVs reveals clear similarities. Each adopts a squared-off stance with upright surfaces, a flat bonnet and prominent wheel arches, giving them a purposeful and muscular appearance.
