Remember Mohra actor Poonam Jhawer? Here's what she is doing now
India Today
After her unforgettable Na Kajre Ki Dhaar appearance in Mohra, Poonam Jhawer was seen in films like Oh My God! and R...Rajkumar. In an exclusive chat with us, the actor opened up about her journey and the highs and lows of Bollywood.
Poonam Jhawer, who stole hearts with her performance in the song Na Kajre Ki Dhaar from Mohra, may have been away from the big screen for a while, but she hasn’t stepped away from the world of entertainment. The actor is now gearing up for a new film after a significant gap.
In an exclusive conversation with India Today, she opened up about her journey, the challenges she faced in Bollywood, and her upcoming projects.
Reflecting on the years between her films, Poonam said she stayed creatively engaged despite receiving fewer acting offers. “After my last film, R... Rajkumar, I didn’t do movies for a while but I kept myself busy with events. For seven years, I organised the Dada Saheb Phalke Excellence Awards, which celebrated top actors. Later, I produced a Marathi film, Aanch, and continued creating content on social media. The offers I got for mainstream films didn’t feel right to me, and I never wanted to take up roles that didn’t resonate with me. I focused on projects that truly mattered.”
The actor also spoke about the challenges she faced in the industry. “I was very young when I started, and people liked my work, but I wasn’t from the film industry. There was a lot of nepotism. If someone didn’t want to give you work, you simply wouldn’t get it. I rejected many offers that didn’t feel right, which created resistance against me. Still, I stayed strong and focused. Later, I became the youngest female producer in the industry and continued to make films and music albums.”
Looking back at her work, Poonam shared memories from the sets of Mohra. “Working with Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar, and others was unforgettable. The role I got was significant, and I am very grateful to Rajiv Rai ji for giving me that milestone. I’ve seen many ups and downs, but I don’t dwell on the past. I believe in standing firm, taking opportunities as they come, and staying true to myself.”
